Poverty Hurts

A busy food bank with tables full of food donations

Poverty is closer than you think.

4.5 million children are growing up in poverty in the UK (Child Poverty Action Group). Right now in Northamptonshire, parents are skipping meals so their children can eat; older people are turning off their lights and heating to save money; students are dropping out of school because they can’t afford to get there.

The cost of living crisis hasn’t gone away, it’s hitting harder than ever. Charities and community groups on the frontline are overwhelmed, doing everything they can to support people in real distress.

This is a reality in our community. And this is why we’re asking local residents who can to help those who can’t. If enough of us act, we can be the lifeline our neighbours urgently need.

Donate today.

Rachel McGrath, CEO of Northamptonshire Community Foundation, said: "Nobody should be struggling to cover their basic needs or making a choice between heating and eating.

“We know through feedback from local community groups and charities that many residents are going through really tough times especially those that have already been struggling with financial hardship. We supported our local communities through our Coronavirus Response and Recovery Fund appeal during the pandemic and we will continue to do what we can through the current cost of living emergency to ensure help is provided to those who need it most."

Whether it's £5, £50, or £500, every donation to our #PovertyHurts appeal will go directly to grassroots organisations helping people in hardship right here in Northamptonshire.

Your donation will help provide urgent grants to trusted local charities delivering:

  • Emergency food and fuel support

  • Debt advice and crisis intervention

  • Mental health and wellbeing services

  • Help for older people and people with disabilities

  • Community transport and digital access

  • Homelessness prevention and housing support

Every penny raised will be used to make urgent grants to local charities such as food banks and fuel poverty support, debt advice, help for people with disabilities and older people, access to digital support and community transport services, homelessness charities, mental health support and wellbeing services.

Together, we can support our neighbours in crisis. Donate today.
