Surviving Winter Appeal

Now in its 16th year, this appeal has raised over £285,000, demonstrating our community's generosity. With energy prices rising again this winter, your support is more crucial than ever.

As winter approaches, too many older people across Northamptonshire face an impossible choice: staying warm or managing other essential costs…

9.8% of households in Northamptonshire are living in fuel poverty — and in Kettering, Wellingborough and Oundle, that figure rises above 10%. Behind these statistics are older people who may be cutting back on heating, food or medication simply to get through the colder months.

Loneliness can make winter even harder. More than half of pensioner households in Northamptonshire, 55.1% consist of one older person living alone, many of whom may be at risk of social isolation as well as financial hardship.

Through the Surviving Winter Appeal, Northamptonshire Community Foundation is working with local charities and community organisations to provide practical, targeted support to vulnerable older people this winter. Your donation can help ensure that older people in our communities are warm, safe, connected and able to live with dignity through the coldest months of the year.

Please consider making a donation today. Every gift, whatever its size, will help bring warmth, comfort and reassurance to an older person who needs it most.

You can help us keep our older and vulnerable neighbours warm, fed, and well when the cold weather hits.

Make a one-off or regular donation on our Justgiving page or speak to our Donor Relationships Officer, Katie Vickers. Katie can be contacted by email, katie@ncf.uk.com, or phone, 07483 428131.

Who you've helped before

Age UK Northamptonshire were awarded a grant of £5,000. The team used this funding to fit 100 smoke detectors in the homes of older residents and ran electric blanket testing and replacement sessions for 40 residents, to prevent the dangers caused by old and faulty electric blankets and to ensure their beneficiaries would be safe and warm all winter.

BAK UP CIC were awarded a grant of £3,000 to run their community spaces project, which provides around 150 beneficiaries with a safe and warm space to come together each week, to enjoy refreshments, games, arts and crafts.
