Poverty Hurts

Together, we can help families facing hardship across Northamptonshire.

Across Northamptonshire, poverty continues to shape the lives of far too many people.

Rising living costs, housing pressures and limited access to timely support are pushing individuals and families into impossible choices - between heating and eating, rent and food, or everyday essentials and mounting anxiety. People working hard to stay afloat are finding that employment alone is no longer enough to protect them from hardship.

At Northamptonshire Community Foundation, we see the human impact of poverty every day through the local charities and grassroots groups we support. These organisations work with care, dignity and deep local knowledge - but the need they face is growing faster than the resources available.

Poverty doesn’t just affect finances. It undermines health, wellbeing and stability, limits opportunities for children, and leaves people feeling isolated and overwhelmed. Your support can help change that.

Why this appeal matters locally

In North Northamptonshire, around 17.8% of children under 16 live in absolute low‑income families.

In West Northamptonshire, over 70% of children living in poverty are from working households - highlighting that employment does not always prevent hardship.

Behind these figures are real families:

  • Children without school essentials

  • Parents choosing between food and heating

  • Older and disabled residents struggling to stay warm

  • People in crisis with nowhere else to turn

Poverty affects rural villages and urban centres alike. Through this appeal, we fund organisations across the whole of Northamptonshire, ensuring help reaches those who need it most.

  • Support for older and disabled residents

  • Community transport and digital access

  • Housing advice and homelessness prevention

Who you’ve helped before

Thanks to donors like you, the Poverty Hurts Appeal has already made a real difference across Northamptonshire:

Citizens Advice Services Corby & Kettering

£3,000 awarded to support their telephone help and advice line, enabling continued support for people affected by the cost‑of‑living crisis. The funding also allowed the Corby office to reopen two days a week following earlier closures - supporting 4,019 beneficiaries.

The Victoria Centre

£3,000 awarded to help households struggling with rising living costs through weekly food vouchers over four weeks, alongside budgeting advice, energy‑saving tips and signposting to further support.

This funding supported 45 people in sudden crisis and on low incomes.

Many residents told us that the Poverty Hurts Program made a real difference to their daily lives. The vouchers helped families buy essential food during a difficult period, and the energy advice reduced worry about rising household bills. Several people said they felt less stressed and more supported, and appreciated having somewhere local to turn to for help.”
