Syrah Nazir

Syrah’s aim in life has always been to make a difference to individuals and society by volunteering my time and experiences. She believes in the ethos of empowering others by creating opportunities to help improve lives. Syrah brings a wealth of knowledge of understanding local disadvantaged communities. She currently lives in Northampton with her family and has spent most of her life in this region and raised both her children here. 

Syrah’s academic achievements began at secondary school as a Head-Girl and further at university level where she achieved a BA Honours Degree in Economics with French and an Msc Degree in International Business Economics. 

Her vocational work includes several paid and voluntary positions in sectors including, banking, management, education, research and community initiatives. Her current role is Partnership Officer at Central East Northants Citizens Advice.   Often a bridge between local residents and service providers Syrah is an expert in negotiating improvements in facilities available to them and through outreach initiatives.

Syrah is involved in research work in conjunction with bodies such as the Poverty Truth Commission to help influence policy and promote the need for further enhanced long and short-term funding and support. Syrah speaks several community languages enabling her to communicate on different levels with people from diverse backgrounds. She is also on the board of Home-Start Northampton as an Equality and Diversity Board Advisor.

Syrah also enjoys travelling with her children and experiencing new cultures and cuisine. The family also enjoys theatre, walking, cookery and reading together.
