CEO Rachel McGrath completes Race to the King 100K trek raising urgent funds for Northamptonshire Community Foundation
This weekend, thanks to being spurred on by so many generous donations, I completed the awesome Race to the King 100k trek across the very hilly South Downs National Park starting from Goodwood Racecourse near Chichester also taking in Arundel Castle in West Sussex and completing the route on late Sunday afternoon on day two. I was met with a brilliant medal, the King himself (!) and wonderful cheers from well wishers.
Along the way (naturally armed with first aid kit, sun cream extra socks and water) I got to speak with many trekkers walking for so many amazing and worthy causes and some in memory of lost loved ones, which was incredibly emotional. I was able to make trekkers I chatted with aware of the incredible work of their local community foundation and the great work it is doing on their doorstep thanks to its place-based philanthropy activity and grant making. I even met a couple of fellow trekkers who are volunteer divers and archaeologists for the London Shipwreck Trust!
The amazing scenery really helped with the tough and very hilly bits and the event was fantastically organised with regular refreshments, pit stops and overnight campsite by Threshold Sports. I was incredibly humbled to trek alongside 1500 people all challenging themselves for causes they care about deeply and learning why those causes were close to their hearts.
I feel an incredible sense of personal achievement having raised much needed funds for Northamptonshire Community Foundation’s knowing the monies will help us keep supporting groups that provide a safety net for vulnerable residents especially during the current cost of living crisis. I am privileged to see the incredible difference funded groups really do make to local lives.
I would positively encourage anyone to help raise funds for Northamptonshire Community Foundation this year, it’s a great way to stay fit and raise sponsorship monies for a brilliant local charity. I hope I have provided some inspiration for any future fundraisers out there.
Rachel has to date raised an amazing £1273 for the Foundation. If you'd like to make a donation to help celebrate Rachel completing this challenge please follow this link: SPONSOR RACHEL
