Winter Well-being Fund

This Programme requires you to identify in section 3 under Impact how you will tackle one or more of the needs identified in the Foundation’s Hidden Needs Report. Please read the guidance to help you answer the question.

Since 2010, and headed up by our patron David Laing and his wife Mary who feel very strongly about this cause, Northamptonshire Community Foundation has run its annual Winter Appeal encouraging all those who can afford to forego their Winter Fuel Payment (WFP) to instead donate it to support older people in our county for whom the WFP is not nearly enough, making them most at risk during the cold winter months. This fund aims to tackle winter fuel poverty and social isolation by supporting older, and vulnerable people in our county.

In this unprecedented year, where older and vulnerable people have been advised to self-isolate and shield for many months, the winter months will be even harder for them to get through. With many day centre activities having to adapt to enable their clients still to be able to access their services, the need for support this year is even greater.

We welcome applications from registered charities running activities to protect and help older and vulnerable people in supported environments during the winter months.

A Winter Well-being grant is for a project activity between £250 and £5,000. The Winter Well-being Grants Panel meets on a bi-monthly basis to allow work to take place each winter. We accept applications between September and February for winter activity.

Grants awarded by the Winter Well-being Fund will meet at least one of these five aims:

• Keep homes warm
• Dress for warmth
• Stay warm at night
• Eat well
• Keep active

Applications that do not meet these aims will not be considered.
