Surviving Winter Fund

This Programme requires you to identify in section 3 under Impact how you will tackle one or more of the needs identified in the Foundation’s Hidden Needs Report. Please read the guidance to help you answer the question.

Northamptonshire Community Foundation established its Surviving Winter Fund in 2010, headed up by our Patron and HM Lord Lieutenant, David Laing and his wife Mary who feel very strongly about this cause. The Fund encourages all those who can afford to forego their Winter Fuel Payment (WFP) to instead donate it to support older people in our county for whom the WFP is not nearly enough, making them most at risk during the cold winter months.

Grants made from this fund will be awarded to groups and organisations supporting older and vulnerable people and families during the winter months.

A Surviving Winter grant is for a project activity between £250 and £5,000. The Surviving Winter Grants Panel meets on a monthly basis to allow work to take place each winter. We accept applications between August and February for winter activity.

Grants awarded by the Surviving Winter Fund will meet at least one of these five aims:

• Keep homes warm
• Dress for warmth
• Stay warm at night
• Eat well
• Keep active

Applications that do not meet these aims will not be considered.
