Route Canal Arts has been awarded £4,273 from Northamptonshire Community Foundation through the Compton Fund.
Route Canal Arts is an artist-led group providing creative activities in educational settings. They provide training, skills development and employment opportunities for artists, volunteers and trainees.
Working with communities across Northamptonshire, Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Somerset, the group aims to develop the imagination, confidence and skills of participants and artists.
Funding from the Foundation will support the Yardley Hastings Lantern Parade. Route Canal Arts will be working with a number of local schools to create lanterns and other props for the parade, with the children then going on to participate in the event.
Simon Tipping and Jane Roberts, of the group, said: “We are so excited to have received funding from the Compton Fund to work with the community of Yardley Hastings alongside Denton and Yardley Hastings Primary Schools making lanterns large and small for the Village Lantern Parade on Friday 29 November. For many people in the community, it represents the start of Christmas celebrations.”
