QStory Northampton has been awarded £3,000 from Northamptonshire Community Foundation through the Compton Fund.
QStory Northampton is a recently formed group aiming to bring the local LGBT+ community together through queer literature. They are advocates of queer literature having the power to foster self-confidence and develop self-esteem particularly within the LGBT+ community, who can often struggle to see their identities represented in mainstream media.
Funding from the Foundation will support the one-day Northampton Queer Literary Festival, held in September at the Umbrella Fair Pavilion on the Racecourse.
Elizabeth Simpson, of QStory, said: “We were thrilled to receive a grant from the Compton Fund. This funding will make it possible for us to put on a one-day LGBTQ+ book festival in Northampton, featuring six queer authors. It will bring the local LGBTQ+ community together through a shared love of literature and provide an opportunity for queer voices to be heard. This will be a positive and fun event which is open to everyone, but particularly aimed at LGBTQ+ people who may be feeling isolated or excluded. We are very grateful to Northamptonshire Community Foundation for their support.”
