Umbrella Fair Organisation has been awarded £5,000 by Northamptonshire Community Foundation through the Compton Fund for Arts, Culture and Heritage.
The organisation promotes sustainable living, environmental awareness and community cooperation in Northampton by working with local volunteers to organise an annual free festival of music, art, poetry, dance and education that showcases the diverse talent of the Northampton community.
Funding from the Foundation will be used to develop a volunteer work placement scheme titled ‘All of us’, giving participants the opportunity to join and become part of a local, vibrant, creative and busy community organisation. The structured programme enables participants to build their confidence and self-esteem, whilst gaining valuable work experience and developing their social skills.
Ian Bates, a project coordinator at the Umbrella Fair Organisation said, "The Umbrella Fair is delighted to have our work recognised by Northamptonshire Community Foundation. We have just received funding from NCF for our supported volunteer project called 'All of Us'. The project is our response to the increasing numbers of people wanting to volunteer with us who have mental health, substance misuse difficulties or are socially isolated. The project provides supported volunteering opportunities in our 4 work areas; cafe, refurbishment, administration of cycle workshop. The funding will enable us to help so many more isolated people to be contributing valued members of their local community. A big big thank you to NCF".
