Get Ready for Giving Tuesday

Northamptonshire Community Foundation’s Surviving Winter Appeal aims to save lives and tackle fuel poverty and social isolation in the county’s older and vulnerable population.

The winter can be one of the hardest seasons to get through for the most vulnerable in our communities and every penny raised will be passed on to those in greatest need.

Last winter saw the highest recorded excess winter deaths since 1975 (Office for National Statistics) and one in ten households in Northamptonshire currently live in fuel poverty, spending more than 10% of their income on fuel.

This year, the Foundation is aiming to raise £20,000 for their Surviving Winter Appeal and what better way to get involved than on Giving Tuesday? Giving Tuesday is the international day of global giving. It is a day where everyone, everywhere, can do something to support local good causes and communities. It is a day to celebrate and encourage giving in all its forms.

Giving Tuesday falls on 3 December and even the smallest donation to the Appeal will go a long way in supporting those in need over the winter months.

Victoria Miles DL, Chief Executive of Northamptonshire Community Foundation, said: “With many of these people living alone, and with concerns over social isolation and the cold over the winter months, our Appeal is vital. With your help, we aim to work to reduce the number of older and vulnerable people in Northamptonshire who die from the cold and poor living conditions to zero.”

Northamptonshire Community Foundation is the leading, independent grant-making charity in the county, working with fund holders and donors to ensure projects make a sustainable impact on local need.
