Foundation is given a Lords Celebration at Westminster

The Northamptonshire Community Foundation joined more than 300 others from Community Foundations all across the UK at the Community Foundation Network annual Parliamentary reception.
It was hosted by CFN President, Baroness Prashar in the House of Lords, with an address made by Minister for the Third Sector, Kevin Brennan MP. Brennan praised the work of Community Foundations - which together made around £70 million in grants to over 20,000 local community groups last year.
Local Conservative MP for Daventry Tim Boswell attended the event, along with Foundation Chief Executive Victoria Miles and Fund Development Manager Jessica Pilkington. Ian Leather, from Lambert Smith Hampton, Helen Taylor, from Franklins solicitors and Robert Tomkinson, a supporter of the Foundation, also travelled to London for the reception.
The event celebrated and marked the generous support Northamptonshire Community Foundation – along with other Foundations – has received from local individuals and businesses in the last year.

Thanks to such support the Foundation was able to award over £666,000 to 147 different groups in 2008 - helping cash strapped community groups and projects through the credit crunch. In total, since the Foundation was launched in 2001, it has distributed more than £3million in grants to over 800 groups.
Victoria Miles, Chief Executive of Northamptonshire Community Foundation, said: “We want our local MPs to understand the amazing contribution being made to the community by generous people and businesses here in Northamptonshire. One local donor, for example, recently gave £100,000 of his own money to support local community projects - making a real difference to hundreds of local people. Local businesses are increasingly choosing us as their charity of choice this year and it is hugely gratifying to be able to recognise such public spiritedness.
“Even in these difficult times there are local people ready to put their hands in their pockets to help those less fortunate than themselves.”
