Young Philanthropy for those aged 18 - 24, gain a free qualification!

Young people interested in pursuing a career in charity are joining an exclusive training day in Northampton, the only course of its kind in the UK.

Organised and hosted by local charity Northamptonshire Community Foundation, this ‘Young Philanthropy Programme’ is for 18 to 24-year-olds and will run over the next few months at venues across the county.

Billed as being ‘Great for the CV’, this course is designed to give local young people an accreditation and hands on experience with a host of charities across the county.

Rachel McGrath, Grants Director at Northamptonshire Community Foundation, explained: “We are really excited about launching this educational programme, the first of its kind in the UK and utterly unique in its content and aims. Each of the five courses will work with a group of no more than 20 young people and will be focused on boosting confidence, CV’s, giving people hands on experience and ultimately helping them get into the workplace.

“Charities can transform people’s lives, so this is the focus of our training events, which will enable young people to learn from each other, have fun, make friends and gain valuable experience.”

Each of the one day courses will include charity chat from a donor, an interactive charity game designed to explore attitudes to giving and the screening of films made about local groups which have all received life changing grants from Northamptonshire Community Foundation.

After each course the group of delegates will look at where they would like to work in the county and the Foundation will help line up work experience at a variety of local charities. Those who complete 12 days work will graduate as a ‘Young Ambassador’ at the charity’s next award ceremony.

This innovative programme has been funded by the Kirby Laing Foundation and the dates are as follows:

• Royal and Derngate, Northampton: March 28th, April 25th, May 24th
• Towcester Town Hall: June 14th
• Corby Cube: June 26th
