The Women in Business Network (WIBN) supported the Surviving Winter Campaign by donating baby cot blankets to two groups within the county the Eden Park Teenage Parents Group and Baby Basics GPC group.
The Eden Park Teenage Parents group offers support to young disadvantaged parents and their children and aims to provide young families with a support package that will enable them, when they are of age to maintain and sustain their own tenancies.
Baby Basics is dedicated to helping and providing basic support to pregnant and new mums who are left with little or nothing just before and after they give birth. They provide "new baby" packs and other baby clothes and some equipment to those in need, by referral through healthcare professionals.
Community Foundation Chief Executive, Victoria Miles said “This support highlights the generosity of local businesses in our county at a time when the London Met Office has issued a cold weather alert for parts of England, which could increase the health risks to vulnerable families and older people. It is estimated that over 4 million households live in fuel poverty across the UK and our Surviving Winter campaign collects donations and channels them directly to help those in greatest need stay warm and well this winter. “
WIBN is a national membership organisation. Barbara Hodgson who is franchisee within Northamptonshire & Leicestershire initiated the project and said: “WIBN is delighted to support this worthy campaign and donate these personalised cot blankets to help with basic support to new and young mums. We all have a corporate responsibility through our businesses to put back into the community and this project was a great opportunity for businesses to do this.”
