Over 300 theatre tickets have been given out to local groups, for children to enjoy the fun and sparkle of the Christmas season.
Support from the Royal & Derngate to the Northampton Chronicle & Echo’s Fair Deal for Kids Fund is providing local children with an extra special Christmas this year. Customers have been encouraged to add a gift-aided donation of £10 when making a theatre booking with the theatre making up the difference to provide a free ticket to the Snow Queen or Cinderella to a disadvantaged child living in the county.
Northamptonshire Community Foundation, Grants Director, Rachel McGrath said: “When you are in poverty one of the first things to go are hobbies and activities. But often it’s that bit of social interaction that keeps people going. The isolation that comes with being in poverty can be devastating.”
Zinwomen Chair, Rutendo Nyatsine said: “Thank you to everyone who has made it possible for the children in our group to have the wonderful experience of seeing one of the Christmas performances. Some of the children have never had an opportunity to go to the theatre and they have been so excited. It has been a magical Christmas present for them. Thank you.”
Pam Dobson of Northamptonshire Deaf Children's Society said:
"The children absolutely loved every moment of the show - they were transfixed from the start. Thank you so much to Northamptonshire Community Foundation for offering our children this opportunity. They thought it was a really magical show."
