A windfall in December for local groups

Published - Tuesday, 08 December, 2015

Over £95,000 has been distributed in December between 17 groups within the county.

Live at Home Northampton were amongst the groups to receive an award. The grant from the St Giles Fund will help towards the cost of the transport it provides for its160 members and enable the group to expand the range and frequency of its social outings and activities.

Amongst the activities available is a weekly fitness, fun and friendship group that encourages mobility and independence and a twice weekly lunch club. The group also provides a 1:1 befriending service to support those who have very few or often no visitors. Published data from the Office for National Statistics and Age UK shows a national picture of increasing numbers of older people who are living alone many of whom feel vulnerable and isolated.
