Anticipated Needs Survey for VCS in Economic Recession

Northamptonshire Community Foundation has carried out a piece of research to anticipate the current needs of the Third Sector during the Economic Downturn. This was carried out during June to August and was funded by Capacity Builders through Northamptonshire Infrastructure Consortium in 2009. Special thanks are due to Volunteers from the University of Northampton Community Volunteers who supported the telephone survey aspect of the research.

A special word of thanks is due to the particpating organisations. Thir honesty and openness has provided a helpful snapshot of the anticpated needs of the Third Sector during the Economic Downturn. This will hopefully provide a baseline indicator of need and help navigate a way forward to provide the appropriate support and plan for the future.

We are dedicated to regularly reviewing the impact of our grant making and reviewing local community needs. It makes good sense to predict local need rather than be responsive; this ensures the following:

•    Our grant making makes sense to what is happening locally
•    We can plan ahead to ensure our grant making reflects what is needed
•    We place ourselves as community leaders meaning we actively show that our grant making is addressing the needs of the community and influence good practice in other funders
